Peering over the keyboard.

This wretched holiday refuses to end.

In Scotland, both the first and second of January are holidays because the Scots New Year parties mean most people need both days for recovery. This year, those dates fell on Saturday and Sunday, but they apparently don't count. So everything is still shut down for Monday and Tuesday.

Reality does not descend until Wednesday. It's going to happen again next year.

I need a new chair. This one is broken. The gas-lift plunger has popped out of the bottom so it's at minimum height and staying there. If I had a webcam now I would look like an enraged gnome. I have ordered another but it won't even be dispatched before Wednesday.

Bah. Humbug. Scrooge was right all along.

"enraged gnome" nearly made me fall off my ball. Yep, ball. I tried chair after chair (which gets expensive) and never found one that was right.

I tried sitting on an exercise ball which was great for my health and comfier than a chair, but they'd roll away when I stood up. That was annoying to say the least and dangerous if I'd just stood up momentarily to reach for something.

Then I got an exercise ball that has sand or something inside. It's very comfy, can be inflated to any height I want to sit at, the sand keeps it in one place unless I want to rock and roll on it on purpose, it has lasted longer than any chair I've ever owned, and (best of all) it only cost $26.

Of course I daren't sit on it in short shorts or undies-only (admit it, we've all checked our email in our underwear at least once) for any length of time or like anything made of rubberie/vinylie stuff your skin tends to stick. Ouch. But I tend to wear bermuda sorts anyway so I'm safe most of the time.

I have this picture of someone in flowery shorts sitting on a big blob of silly putty...

Then you're dead on. Hope it doesn't give you nightmares.

Everyone has checked their email while wearing underwear? Everyone wears underwear? *shock*

We had one of these chairs in an office where I once worked, and it was so comfortable, everyone fought over who got to sit on it.

The new chair is here. I hadn't realised how saggy and worn the other one had become until I replaced it. The new chair is wonderful although I admit to useing different words while assembling it.

It's black leather and looks like a Bond villian chair. I spent a good amount on it because I spend a lot of time at the computer, so cheap chairs are a false economy. They just wear out faster.

SW - I've seen one of those 'kneeling' chairs in action but I have a feeling I'd get my legs tangled in it if I tried to get up.

I'll stick with the Bond villian chair for now.

I wish there were some way to edit comments. Typos drive me nuts!
