A new Zodiac recruit.

Apparently there's a new Zodiac sign. It seems the Earth has shifted around since astrology was first conceived and the Sun no longer goes through the right signs at the right times. In fact, there's a constellation it goes through now that it didn't go through before. Ophiuchus, the snake-wrestler.

The new list is as follows.

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11
Pisces: March 11-April 18
Aries: April 18-May 13
Taurus: May 13-June 21
Gemini: June 21-July 20
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23
Scorpio: Nov. 23-29
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29-Dec. 17
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20

I thought I was Aries but now it seems I'm completely Pisces. Which I deny. I haven't touched a drop today. I despise being in water as much as a cat does, I can barely swim and I am uncomfortable on boats. A fish-sign does not suit me at all. I prefer to stick with Aries the Ram because the idea of being able to head-butt people without feeling any need to give any kind of explanation is very appealing indeed.

Does anyone know where this stellar image of a giant guy waving his serpent around came from? I am not a student of astrology so maybe he's been in the picture all this time and I haven't noticed. Although I have to say I have never heard the name at all.

This new list comes from astronomers rather than astrologers so I have no idea of the impact (if any) it has on astrology. Does it change things retrospectively? Am I Aries because it was still Aries when I was born, or do I have to go out and get Pisces now? This is more confusing than when they demoted Pluto from 'planet' to 'big rock'. At least Pluto didn't change its orbit in response.

I wonder what the character traits for Ophiuchus people will be. A propensity for shaking your snake at people, or perhaps the ability to recognise and strangle the slimy people. That could be useful.

We'll have to wait and see whether this new sign works its way into astrology. I'm sure it will mean a lot of books will have to be rewritten.

It'll be interesting to see what effect this has. I'm sure the astronomers plan to use this to say 'Nyah, you're wrong' to the astrologers, but won't they be kicking themselves if the adjustment turned out to make astrology much more accurate?

That would be worth seeing.

Is that what everyone (everyone meaning a bunch of Aries people, whom it seems to annoy the most) has been talking about? One thing is right: that's exactly how things work their way into astrology. When a discovery is made, like a new planet for instance, we test it for a while to see what it appears to mean, and if everyone agrees, we adopt it.

I don't think there will be a lot of people adopting this one, at least, not in America (other parts of the world...who knows). The reason most western astrologers probably won't adopt it is because 99% of us calculate charts using the tropical zodiac (the sun as a backdrop for the planetary positions) as opposed to the sidereal method (which uses the constellations as a backdrop for the planetary positions). But never say never.

As for your chart, your Sun is very firmly in Aries, but the rest of your personal planets are in water signs = Pisces and Cancer. And some of them are in the 8th house of death, which is what gives you an innate talent for feeling the presence of paranormal things. You also have a Yod (known as "the finger of God") pointing to the ruler of your 8th house. Yods are associated with destiny, so if anyone has a chance of proving the existence of ghosts, you'd have a better chance than most.

Speaking of Pisces -- an old friend who was studying to be a psychologist was visiting a mental hospital as part of his training. He was an astrologer, too, so he got the birth data of a boy who was a resident there. The kid had all his personal planets in Pisces in the 12th house of confinement. He had been discovered shackled to his bed, naked, with a bucket for a toilet, and at age 13 or so had learned to say only, "Don't let the boy out," apparently because it was all he had heard. True to the position of his planets, it was thought that he would spend the rest of his life confined because he was unable to function in the outside world.

Southern - please finish the story!!!

Rom - I never heard of the new guy (with or without a snake) and don't even know how to say the name. So has he/it been around all the time or just got devised for the new theory? And if around, what about all the other constellations one hears little about? we going to be seeing them drift their way into the list?

At any rate I remain Taurus the Bull in either old or new system.

Hey Jude, what story? About the boy? That's all my friend told me. It gave me the shivers.

Pisces is considered a mute sign (fish obviously don't speak), and is extremely intuitive, sensitive and empathetic. It's ruled by Neptune, so it represents illusion, delusion, deception, confusion, seeing things that aren't there, and not seeing things that are. It rules all bodies of water, liquid, alcohol(ism), gasses, and precipitation. I personally think it rules mountains (especially if snow-capped), but I've never heard that elsewhere. It also has rulership over things like creativity, music, and art, as well as mysteries and the unknown.

The 12th House is the natural home of Pisces, the 12th sign of the zodiac. So to have the sun in Pisces AND in the 12th house is like getting a double dose of Pisces. To have all of one's personal planets there would be a triple dose. To have one's Mercury there (ruler of the rational mind, speech, and the ability to communicate), as well as the moon (the emotions, mother, intuition, extraordinary knowing, home and domestic matters), is getting into dangerous territory. That's someone who has practically no basis in reality at all. It's very ethereal and nether-worldly.

The 12th House is the house of secrets, sorrows, and self-undoing, secret enemies, confinement, and places that are hidden and unseen. That makes it the house of hospitals, charities, jails, ashrams, convents, monasteries, orphanages, asylums, laboratories (you get the idea...) and radio stations, as well as other unseen things like ghosts, and the collective unconscious.

The poor boy never had a chance. I can only assume it's a karmic condition due to a past life. There's more about karma and astrology on my blog, and I have a tag cloud to make it easy to find, but I think I've hijacked Rom's blog long enough for today. I like to stay on his good side as much as I can. ;-)

So I am not demoted to Pisces? Good.

Sensitive empathy just isn't me.

No, but the intuitive, ethereal, otherworldly interests are alive and well. No Pisces can fill all those shoes, but every Pisces (or anyone with a lot planets in Pisces) will wear some of them.

make note: don't be a notie boy.

That is a sad story about the abused child. But I don't believe he is living out some karmic justice for transgressions in a past life.

I believe everyone born arrives with a clean slate. Sadly some people choose to do evil and innocents suffer.
