New Year.

Wel, that's this holiday period nearly over. I expect the shops will be stocked with Easter eggs when they reopen on Tuesday.

I'll be glad when it gets back to normal on the High Street. I am in desperate need of a haircut.

So begins 2011. As always, everyone considers it a new year and imagines it will somehow be different. There are those who believe the world will end when the Mayan calendar ends on December 12th 2012. Well, our calendar just ended again and the planet didn't even notice.

The Mayan calendar is a long one but it has ended before and when it ends this time, it just goes back to the beginning again. As ours does. So I don't expect anything to happen in December 2012.

Well, there will be one event of note in 2012. There will be one second of time where clocks that display seconds will read 12:12:12 on 12/12/12. A small amusement, just as this year they read, for one second, 10:10:10 on 10/10/10 and there'll be one next November too. After the 2012 one, these little amusements won't be available again until the year 3000 and I, for one, am not confident about being here to see that.

As for resolutions, I don't really have any. I need to lose the weight I've gained by sitting around snowbound for a month but that's a necessity, not a resolution. I hope to revive this neglected blog this year and get back to the expanded version of 'Ghosthunting' which has also been neglected.

We'll see how it goes. In the meantime, I hope the year turns out to be a good one for everyone.

Happy New Year.

Happy New Year, Romulus.

and under your writer's blogs the address of One Little Elephant has changed. Just in case you're interested in updating it, it's now www.onelittleelephant.com

Stay warm!

Regina - I've changed it but it points to an artist/illustrator site named as Tricia Buchanan-Benson. Is that correct?

There's also no RSS feed there.

Sort of ridiculous of me not to get my own blog address right, but I've been ridiculous plenty of times in my life so I'm pretty good at it at this point.

Anyway, here is ( I hope) the correct address: http://www.one-little-elephant.com

Hi regina

I changed it again, tried a few times but your RSS feed comes back with 'invaild content type'. I get that if I click on 'Posts RSS' at the bottom of your page too.

I can get to your page by typing in the URL but Blogger's link messes it up every time.

I'm out of my depth with this one! Any ideas welcome.

No Easter eggs yet. We've got all those little chocolate and pastel colored hearts.

I'm looking forward to your ghost hunting again.

I know you've got to think I make this stuff up because it's so continuous, but I wish you could come investigate my house. I can't figure out if "someone" follows me, if I simply attract the otherworldly as my mother seemed to, or if it's more prevalent than we think and I'm just more open to the possibility of it. You know I just moved two months ago and it has already started again. First it was the burglar alarm going off for no apparent reason whatsoever in the middle of the night (it wasn't even supposed to be working), and now I'm hearing footsteps in the attic. My cats heard it, too. I had to have a couple big strong men go search up there for a live intruder because at the same time, a window I had made a point to lock an hour before (when I let the cats in through it) was suddenly unlocked. No, I did not forget to lock it. I made a point of locking it--it has two locks. This house isn't historic or anything. It's probably less than 20 years old. I doubt very much that anyone died in it. I do know that a woman across the street died at home a month or so before I moved here, but the footsteps I heard were boot-clad and male.

I would run my little camera, but it doesn't "do" black & white, and batteries for it are SO expensive!

SW - I use rechargeable batteries and (in summer at least) I have a small solar-powered charger that loads them up for me. The digital cameras suck the life out of 'ordinary' batteries in minutes. I had one that could drain two ordinary AA's in minutes. They came out hot!

The more photos you have on the camera, the worse it gets. Periodical clearouts are always a good idea.

Ghosthunting here is on hold until the permafrost melts. I suspect I might have no lawn at all when the spring finally arrives.

I'm LOL, Rom, as I have just debunked the attic ghost. I'd rather show you than tell you, however, so I'll try to get it done this weekend. Also discovered and debunked another weird anomaly. That's two out of four down.

I'm providing a link for a video I made that explains the "footsteps in the attic." Before I give it to you, I just want to say that it sounded more like footsteps when I first heard it than it does here. I wasn't great at recreating it, but I'm sure you'll get the gist. I'm also adding links for two other "anomalies" for the fun of it.

footsteps

ceiling light

the mirror

I see you've already worked out two of them.

The mirror looks old, and the silvering might be starting to break. Could there have been something pressing against the back while it was being moved? It looks like a capital 'A' and the number 8 so far.

It'll be interesting to see whether it continues to develop.

astrologymemphis.blogspot.com said...

The silvering is very definitely in bad shape.

To me, it says "no," or "n8."

Romulus Crowe said...

I wondered if it could be a lower-case 'n' but settled on 'A'.

It could be worth looking at the back of the mirror to see if there's anything like an old delivery address written there, or maybe an indentation where it might have been written through packaging. A different heat/humidity level in the new house might bring through marks that weren't visible before.

Otherwise, keep watching and see what develops ;)
